Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation
on behalf of JFK Memorial
Amount: $1,465,000
Location: Ashland
Description: Funding is being requested to reconstruct the intersection of the primary and secondary runways, as well as the taxiways and parking area. The runway intersection has the oldest pavement on the airport and has deteriorated to the point of needing replacement. The pavement was constructed in 1978 and overlaid in 1995. Crack sealing and heat-treating of the area is no longer cost effective. The connecting taxiway to Runway 31 is projected to fall below the minimum service level soon. Two of the hanger taxiways are in poor condition. The entrance drive and parking lot pavements to the terminal building are in poor condition and need replacement. The entrance road (CTH K) is in excess of 30 years old. The entrance drive has very steep side slopes to the ditch bottom. This condition creates a hazard especially in the winter when the steep slope is hidden by snow. Two way traffic on the narrow entrance drive also experience difficulty negotiating oncoming vehicles due to lack of a shoulder.
Recipient: City of Beloit
Amount: $1,792,000
Location: Beloit
Description: Funding will be used to reconstruct the superstructure and widen the Henry Avenue Bridge. The project includes widening the bridge to make it friendlier to pedestrians and bicyclists. The current structure is intimidating for pedestrian and bicycle users; the new design increases the bridge to four lanes and adds a separate, 10’ wide bike and pedestrian facility with a safety barrier on the south side of the bridge. Ultimately this will serve as the primary transportation link between the Beloit Memorial High School and the new city library.

Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation on behalf of Eagle River Airport
Amount: $1,100,000
Location: Eagle River
Description: Eagle River Union Airport, classified as a Transport/Corporate airport in the State Airport System Plan (SASP), serves business jets, air taxi operations, and recreational users. Funding is being requested to expand and reconstruct the main ramp. The main aircraft parking ramp has seen increased use by corporate aircraft, including jets. The majority of the ramp was constructed in 1975. Pavement inspections conducted by the Bureau of Aeronautics indicate the pavement has exceeded its useful life. There are numerous large cracks throughout the entire structure of the surface. Expansion of the ramp near the airport terminal area will provide needed additional aircraft tie-down spaces, creating a safe area for planes to park and tie-down, especially in the summer months when traffic increases.
